May is Fajita Month at El Maguey.
This place takes the cake by far. The food at El Maguey de Cotija is incredible – fresh, tasty, and the red salsa is to die for. Not only this, but a giant California Burrito will run you about $7-8. You can find this restaurant on the corner of Fir and Fourth, so it’s only about a five-minute walk from campus. They also have a HUMONGOUS menu, so you can score a combination plate if you’re not in the mood for a burrito that day. All of their food is very inexpensive, and the portions allow for two meals if you want to keep your leftovers on you/in the school fridge — two meals, one stone. I am absolutely in love with this place, and the customer service is excellent as well.
Whether you are a third-year student studying for the bar exam or a measly first-year student like myself, you need to provide your brain with nutrients. You will not get these nutrients if you’re not eating, so be sure to make some time for food! If you have a 30-minute break between class and your tutoring session, stop by El Maguey de Cotija. If you have a 10-minute break between classes, run down to your “locker pantry” and grab a filling snack. Cold calls are stressful enough, that last thing you want to do is distract yourself even more by being hungry
Que rico! GREAT little place with very tasty food. Fast and friendly service for my wife and me after medical appointment across the street. We had the February lunch special of 3 mini tacos — one order of pollo asado and one of carne asada — and enjoyed visiting with the owner Jose Valencia who hails from a place in Mexico not far from where we live. And we got a photo to show the folks back home.Mikel M – San Diego

Don’t blink or you’ll miss this place.
By far THE BEST taco place I’ve been to in months and we’ve been in California for 20 years.
Try the El Maguey burrito. It is the perfect balance of meat and guac and spice and service is fast. Wash it down with cold Horchata and you’re in heaven.
Wow!! This hole in the wall was a delight!! The chef, Jose, has earned many awards and worked in a variety of high profile schools/restaurants.
It’s a humble but really tasty experience. The flavors are complex and authentic.
It’s a step up from the run of the mill taco shops.Jose S – Los Angeles
I recommend it for a quick authentic bite on the go before a day in the park in balboa!
So damn good everytime we go! We found this hidden gem walking around the corner from our hotel. We always rave about it to friends and clients, sefinately try the chorizo burrito. Best thing on the menu! Just remember to get there early enough for it.Ashley L – Los Angeles
